PROFILE

Dr. Karen Salandanan-Bautista served in the three bureaus of the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the past 24 years: as an RDE network coordinator at the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR); as an OIC-Director of the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS); and currently, as Chief Science Research Specialist in the Soil and Water Resources Research Division of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM).

At the national level, she had served in various technical working groups on organic agriculture, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and sustainable soil/land management. She also served as a former advisor in the development of various agriculture and fishery and food safety-related standards. At the international level, she had served in ASEAN, APEC and UNCCD technical working groups, and currently, as a Technical Committee Member in the Center of Excellence for Soil Research in Asia (CESRA) which is based in Thailand.

She garnered the first place in the 2004 Agriculturists Licensure Examination, making her the first woman board topnotcher. At present, she is also serving as the President of the Philippine Society of Soil Science and Technology (PSSST).
